No minutes for November. Our November meeting was our annual Veterans Day Dinner at the Holiday Inn in Helen, Ga. We paid tribute to the U.S. Army and our guest speaker was Lt. Colonel Scott Basso, Commander of the Ranger Training base at Dalonega, Ga.

Minutes of Meeting
February 13, 2020
The regular monthly dinner meeting of the Northeast Georgia Veterans
Society was held Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Tantrum Brewing Company,
1939 Helen Highway, Cleveland, GA.. Dinner at 6:30 PM. This is a new
venue, the meal catered by Natalie Janes Catering. The per person meal
costs is $13 for a meat, 2 sides, salad, drinks and a dessert.
Meeting called to order by President Ron Webb at 6:30 PM and welcomed
guest and two new members: David Bartlett and Douglas Van Talmadge

Bob Ingram, Chief Deputy, White County Sheriff’s office introduced
speakers Captain Rick Kelly, White County Sheriff's Office, Commander of
Investigation Division. Capt. Kelly made a slide show presentation on
Identity Theft and how to prevent it from happening to you.
Committee Reports: Ron Hill Secretary - The January minutes were posted
on NGVS web site, reviewed, and approved without a formal vote by
unanimous consent. Treasures Report - Roger Rosdahl - Operating Account
Balance: $690.29; Community Service Balance $1,141.00; Glaze Scholarship
President Webb presented old business:
President Webb announced that Annual Georgia Military Veterans’ Hall of
Fame Induction Ceremony was very impressive conducted by Governor Brian
Kemp and Lt Governor Geoff Duncan at the Georgia State Capitol rotunda
at 2PM, January 29, 2020. Sergeant Jason Robert Harkins was inducted
into the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame, his photo and award
will be on permanent display in the Sloppy Floyd building just steps
from the state Capitol. His father Bob Harkins and other family members
attended along with President Webb
President Webb remarked that the White County Historical Society has not
made a decision about the display of crosses.
They have tabled the action twice.
President Webb presented new business:
President Webb announced that he received a thank you note from the
Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame for our contribution of $150.
President Webb announced the Glaze Scholarship applications are due from
White County High School on February 28 and other area High Schools on
April 15th. A selection committee of volunteers are: Bob Ingram,
Douglas Talmadge, Jim Mount, Ron Hill, Ex-officio member Ron Webb.

Charlie Potter remarked about the current updates for Agent Orange VA
Bob Ingram reminded us of 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima,
the assault began on 19 February. Three Marine divisions, more than
80,000 men, were assigned the task of taking the island, which was
barely 10 square miles in area and dominated by 556 foot Mount
Suribachi. The ensuing Battle of Iwo Jima lasted for five weeks and
included some of the bloodiest fighting of World War II. It’s believed
that all but 200 of the 21,000 Japanese forces on the island were
killed, as were almost 7,000 Marines and Sailors.
President Webb thanked Captain Rick Kelly for his most informative
presentation and presented him a NGVS coin.
Bob Frederickson conducted a ticket sale of a “50-50” raffle for the
NGVS general fund.
